This piece uses images of Cambodian shophouses and heritage apartment buildings, like the Angkor Meanchey building, to create abstract geometric shapes. I sewed these cyanotype prints into a Sawtooth Star quilt block.

I love printing cyanotypes on fabric and using various sewing techniques as a way to reimagine the city’s built environment. My scissors and sewing machine enable me to patchwork together heritage buildings with newer construction, uproot and transplant street trees, reallocate public space, and more. The process of deconstructing urban scenes and literally stitching the city back together in new and interesting formations allows me to add novelty and abstraction to familiar cityscapes.
